On May 23, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia celebrated the opening of the Roberts Center for Pediatric Research with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new 466,000 square-foot clinical research and office tower on the east bank of the Schuylkill River is the first phase of what is envisioned as a four-tower, 2 million square-foot new research campus. Cooper Robertson prepared the campus master plan and designed the phase 1 public realm, which comprises 4.55 acres of four distinct public open spaces, providing a neighborhood amenity and buffering the scale of the campus in relation to the adjacent community and features integrated sustainable stormwater management systems. A pedestrian bridge connects the open spaces to the popular Schuylkill River Trail.
