The University of Maryland Campus Facilities Plan
The University of Maryland Campus Facilities Plan
Cooper Robertson led the major update to the University of Maryland College Park Campus Facilities Plan. As the flagship institution for the University System of Maryland, this update focuses on near and long-term growth to accommodate increasing needs from sponsored research, academics, and residential life. It provides strategies to improve campus-wide connectivity and co-locate intercollegiate athletics facilities into a new signature athletics district.
The Plan addresses longstanding challenges to help UMD meet its institutional mission and Strategic Plan goals, including:
- Addressing an existing allowance of 1.2M NASF and 1,400 additional undergraduate residential beds.
- Accommodating up to 3.9M GSF of long-term development to accommodate future growth.
- Replacing, renewing, and modernizing the campus energy system to meet future sustainability goals, including decarbonization by 2035.
- Renovating and constructing academic and research facilities to improve learning and research spaces, support innovative teaching pedagogies, and address space deficits.
