Design Director Yanko Apostolov, RIBA, will join the International Council of Museums conference in Milan next week. On Tuesday, July 5th, as part of Part 2: The CAMOC/ICAMT Joint Session, he will address the conference’s theme of Museums & Cultural Landscapes with a presentation entitled “Repairing Sofia’s Cultural Fabric,” a detailed look at Phase 1 of the Bulgarian National Gallery, the first step in a wider urban master plan to expand Sofia’s central museum district. The intention of this new district is to promote synergy between the nation’s most valuable collections and the cultural landscape of the city, while recovering a lost space in the historic fabric and charging it with new meaning.
